Patriots training camp isn’t all about snap counts and blocking schemes. After practice Sunday, the team gathered at Showcase Cinemas Patriot Place to watch a screening of “Deepwater Horizon,” Mark Wahlberg’s new movie about the massive oil-rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. (The movie arrives in theaters next month.) Addressing Pats players beforehand, Wahlberg, who was accompanied by his mom, Alma, said: “I know the work you guys put in, the effort, and the commitment it takes to do what you do and what you risk going out there on a daily basis.” A big Pats fan who played improbable Philadelphia Eagle Vincent Papale in the 2006 film “Invincible,” Wahlberg said the character he plays in “Deepwater Horizon,” an electrician named Mike Williams, is a Pats fan in real life. Patriots owner Robert Kraft said he thought the movie might resonate with players. “It’s about mental toughness, persevering, knowing how the guys around you are doing,” he said. The crowd, which included coach Bill Belichick and players Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, Jimmy Garoppolo, Danny Amendola, Malcolm Butler, and Malcolm Mitchell, applauded when the credits rolled.  [bostonglobe.com]
