Wahlberg is in Detroit filming “Transformers 5,” and while filming ran long Tuesday, he was less than an hour late for his scheduled 7 p.m. red carpet appearance.

“I get out of work when Michael Bay says I get out of work,” he joked.

“Detroit reminds me very much of Boston, it’s a great sports town,” he added, saying he’d move to Detroit if his wife wanted to. “We’re pushing to get more incentives here so we can make more films. We’re going to open up more restaurants, so I’ll be here quite often.”

Fans lined Monroe, hoping to catch a glimpse of the actor.

“We’re big fans,” said Angela Miller, who came to Greektown at 9 a.m. from Brighton with her friend Heather Ferrell of Belleville. “We’ve been following Mark and Donnie for a long time, and we got to meet Paul earlier today. We thought it was opening today so we came down.”

Emily Jilg, 27, of Novi cut her family vacation short by one to be in Detroit on Wednesday. She flew out of Orlando at 4 a.m., arriving on Monroe with her friend Linda Wilson, also of Novi, around 1 p.m.

“I would like to meet him and get a selfie,” she said. “I’ve been a fan for years and years and years.”

In December, Wahlberg announced in an interview with FOX 2’s Lee Thomas his plans to open a Wahlburgers in Greektown this summer in a Bedrock building. Later, it was revealed to be 569 Monroe, a 4,200-square-foot space next to the Red Smoke Barbeque restaurant.

In June, Wahlberg released a video statement saying the opening date would be “in four weeks,” estimating a late July opening.

Wahlburgers is owned by Mark, Paul and brother Donnie, who plays Detective Daniel Reagan on CBS’ “Blue Bloods” and is a member of boy band New Kids on the Block. Local partner Cutraro also owns Bella Piatti in Birmingham.

According to its website, Wahlburgers has locations in Toronto, New York and the brothers’ native state, Massachusetts. The Greektown restaurant will be first of six Wahlburgers planned for southeast Michigan. These locations are part of a nationwide expansion for the brand, which struck deals with various franchise groups to expand to a total of 118 restaurants.

Wahlburgers Detroit will serve lunch and dinner. The menu includes a full bar with a focus on burgers, sandwiches, sides, salads and gourmet sodas.  []

The coming of a Wahlburgers to downtown Detroit (as one of six metro Detroit locations) is causing a lot of buzz in the city.

Over the weekend, Actor Mark Wahlberg, who is also part of the Wahlburgers chain and appears on the “Wahlburgers” television show, did a press appearance at their new Greektown location on Monroe that’s under construction.

He said that it’ll be four weeks until the Wahlburgers is ready to open, and he encouraged people to head downtown and hang out. The city is definitely abuzz with the Transformers 5 filming and the annual set of events that happens.

“We’re shooting the movie in town we’re going to be down here every night hanging out, come on down,” said Wahlberg. You can see him in the video above.

Mark Wahlberg owns the chain with his brothers Paul Wahlberg and Donnie Wahlberg, who is also an actor.

That would mean the opening is coming in last week of July, for you Wahlburger fans out there. It’s part of a greater plan to expand to 118 Wahlburger locations.

The new Wahlburgers in Greektown will be at 569 Monroe Street in downtown Detroit.

Mark, Donnie, and Paul Wahlberg have already announced Atlanta expansion for their appropriately named Wahlburgers burger chain, and one of those restaurants is headed to Cobb County. Wahlburgers will take up residence at The Battery, the forthcoming entertainment district surrounding SunTrust Park, future home of the Atlanta Braves. Battery officials announced several new tenants for the development on Friday.

“We think The Battery Atlanta will be the absolute destination around the Atlanta area with the new park and all the other things they’ll have in that development, which is so exciting to me,” Mark Wahlberg, the current actor and former rapper known as Marky Mark, said in a prepared statement. “For our family, it’s a great opportunity to be at The Battery Atlanta, so we’re thrilled.”

The Wahlbergs first announced plans to enter the Georgia market in March. The franchise agreement calls for six restaurants in the “greater Atlanta area” and Savannah, though the exact number for each city hasn’t been revealed. Those who have never eaten at a Wahlburgers might know of the chain thanks to the Emmy-nominated reality television series of the same name. Wahlburgers chronicles the trio’s restaurant ventures, and it’s been renewed for at least two more seasons on A&E.

In addition to Wahlburgers, Friday’s announcement revealed plans for another Goldberg’s Bagel Company & Deli outpost at The Battery. Shake Shack, another white-hot national burger chain, was previously rumored to be looking at the development. There’s no word on whether this Wahlburgers location will affect those potential plans. Shake Shack operates a restaurant in Buckhead, and another is in the works for Perimeter Mall.

Initial details for the project were revealed last October. The Battery will bring in an impressive roster of local culinary talent, including Ford Fry’s The El Felix (initially announced as Superica), a steakhouse from Linton Hopkins, and Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q. The first openings should come online in time for the start of the 2017 Major League Baseball season, when the Braves will debut their new home.

Wahlburgers will establish its first South Carolina location in the heart of Myrtle Beach.

The eatery – a burger joint that inspired a reality television show staring Mark and Donnie Wahlberg – will open later this year at Broadway at the Beach just inside Celebrity Square. The Myrtle Beach location is the first of four slated to open in the Carolinas.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing Wahlburgers to Myrtle Beach,” CEO Rick Vanzura said in a news release. “While we look forward to welcoming the throngs of tourists who visit Myrtle Beach, we’re especially eager to open our doors to the local community and become a meaningful part of it.”

Wahlburgers will share the same signature green interior and characteristics of the flagship location in Hingham, Mass., complete with a fast casual counter, full-service dining room with a bar, mezzanine seating and an outdoor patio, according to the news release. A retail section will sell branded Wahlburgers merchandise.

The Myrtle Beach location will occupy 5,070 square feet while offering a full menu that “emphasizes creativity and quality ingredients.”

The restaurant inspired a hit reality TV series on A&E that began airing in 2014, and features the behind-the-scenes drama of operating a restaurant as well as their efforts to expand the burger joint to new markets.

The show has featured a unique mix of celebrity guest stars, including NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr., music titan P. Diddy and Pope Francis I.

Chef Paul Wahlberg paints a colorful portrait of his circa-1970s Dorchester childhood among a large, growing and now very famous family.

“Imagine a nest of birds with all their mouths open chirping and it’s always time to feed them,” Wahlberg, one of nine children of Alma and the late Donald Wahlberg, told the Boston Herald. “That was our house. When somebody went to the store for milk, they came back with two gallons. We ate meals that fed a lot of people.”

It’s those images of family life that inspired the new menu he’s releasing this week at Wahlburgers restaurants here in Greater Boston (Fenway, Hingham, Lynnfield) and beyond. (The company is in the midst of a massive franchise expansion plan.)

Fortunately for Paul, his customers and the rest of the Wahlberg clan — including international celebrity brothers Donnie and Mark — Mom and Dad were pretty good cooks.

“My dad made chili all the time,” said Wahlberg, who’s now a TV star in his own right thanks to the success of the A&E reality series “Wahlburgers,” where he and Mom play a central role. “Nothing fancy. No onions. No sour cream. Just chili. It was awesome.”

Alma specialized in sauce and pasta. “Her lasagna is still my brother Mark’s favorite thing and he asks for it whenever he comes home. It was also a great dish at a time when she was feeding a lot of kids.”

The new menu features several dishes right off the Wahlberg dinner table, modified for scratch cooking and contemporary tastes.

Paul and the kids grew up eating sloppy joes with canned Manwich sauce, in true blue-collar style. The new Wahlburgers version is a simply simmered blend of ground beef, onions, tomatoes and seasonings, served open-faced on Texas toast with crispy onions and house-made cheese sauce.

The Wahlberg clan also ate mac ’n’ cheese made from scratch with “government cheese” — a box of processed cheese familiar to many struggling families decades ago. In my neighborhood, kids used to boast that “government cheese makes the best grilled cheese.”

This April, you could cook (and eat) dinner with a Wahlberg.

Paul Wahlberg, owner and executive chef of Hingham-based Alma Nove and expanding burger chain Wahlburgers, will lead a cooking demonstration and dinner at the Boston Public Market in its KITCHEN space.

The April 13 event, hosted by the Trustees of Reservations, will include an hour-long interactive cooking demonstration on how to prepare a meal with locally sourced ingredients, followed by a seated dinner.

“This Market, and the teaching space The KITCHEN brings to it, represents a much-needed and unique opportunity to support the regional farms, farmers, and small businesses that are so important to the health and sustainability of our local economy and food movement,’’ Wahlberg said in a statement.

A portion of the ticket sales benefits the Wahlberg family charity, Alma Cares, which fed 1,500 families in need last year, according to a statement from the Trustees. Tickets are $68 for Trustees members and $85 for nonmembers. Each ticket includes the demo, appetizers, a three-course dinner, dessert, and one complimentary beverage.

Mark Wahlberg’s career has taken some unexpected twists over the past three decades, but even the movie star acknowledges that his most recent turn is the most unusual yet.

If someone had told him five years ago he would soon be starring in a reality TV series, “I would say that you were out of your mind, because the last thing I want to do is be on television,” he says.

Yet there he is, front and center on A&E’s Wahlburgers—the reality series that returned for its fifth season last Wednesday and is focused on the gourmet burger chain, also called Wahlburgers, owned by Wahlberg; his brother Donnie (the New Kid on the Block member and star of CBS’ Blue Bloods); and their brother Paul, who has worked as a chef for three decades.

But their reality show isn’t the usual, semi-desperate attempt at a celebrity comeback—in fact, Mark Wahlberg’s power in Hollywood has never been greater.

“It hasn’t hurt anything I’ve done or the brand I’ve built over the last 27 years, because we own it and we live it,” Wahlberg says of the series. “It’s an amazing marketing tool, and it’s all about promoting the business and building the business.”

And the burger business has been very, very good for Wahlberg and his family.

The first Wahlburgers restaurant opened in 2011 outside Boston in Hingham, Mass., across the street from the family’s first restaurant, Alma Nove, named for mom Alma and her nine kids. The popularity of the show (it’s been nominated twice for the Emmy Award in the Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program category, and its first season in 2014 attracted 3.7 million viewers in live-plus-seven ratings) has put the Wahlberg restaurant business on an impressive trajectory.

The family’s seventh spot, in Orlando, Fla., opened last month, joining others in Toronto, Coney Island, Boston’s Fenway Park and elsewhere. Ten more stores are planned this year in cities including Philadelphia and Las Vegas. Earlier this month, the company announced agreements with five groups to open 30 new franchises, making for a total of 118 stores internationally (including five in Canada and 20 in the Middle East) over the next few years.

Major expansion plans are in the works for Wahlburgers, the burger joint that inspired a reality television show staring Mark and Donnie Wahlberg, including a new location for the Myrtle Beach area.

The Massachusetts-based restaurant, established by fellow brother chef Paul Wahlberg, announced Thursday that 30 new locations will open across the U.S. in major metropolitan areas, including the Grand Strand, Charleston, and Charlotte, North Carolina. The restaurant will also open locations in California, Georgia, Michigan and Ohio.

The owners said in a statement they plan to have more than 100 restaurants operating within the next several years. An opening date or specific location for the Myrtle Beach restaurant was not announced.

“We are on the road to bringing Wahlburgers to a city near you,” Mark Wahlberg said in the statement. “We’ve created this family business with a mission to welcome families and friends from around the world to a place where they can break bread, enjoy some great food and lots of laughs.”

Diddy, and Pope Francis I.

Wahlburgers, the burger chain from actors Mark and Donnie Wahlberg and their chef brother Paul, is expanding again, and this time it’s making plans for the Peach State. Among the latest franchise agreements signed by the Wahlberg bros is a deal to bring six restaurants to the “greater Atlanta area” and Savannah.

While a firm commitment to the state of Georgia has been made, the number restaurants bound for Atlanta, locations, and timelines for opening are not yet known. “Unfortunately, we have no additional information at this time,” a spokesperson for Wahlburgers told Eater Atlanta. “They are simply just looking for potential locations in the Atlanta area.”

Those who have never eaten at a Wahlburgers might know of the chain thanks to the Emmy-nominated reality television series of the same name. Wahlburgers chronicles the trio’s restaurant ventures, and it’s been renewed for at least two more seasons on A&E.

In addition to Georgia, the latest round of Southern expansion targets four restaurants for the Carolinas in Charleston, Charlotte, and Myrtle Beach. Wahlburgers is based in Hingham, Mass., a suburb of Boston, and the chain currently operates seven locations across Florida, Massachusetts, New York, and Canada. Celebrity owned burger chain Wahlburgers is has big Midwest expansion plans. DBusiness first-reports that the company is aiming to open six locations in Michigan and another six in Ohio over the next five years.

Actor Mark Wahlberg let the news slip about a forthcoming Detroit location in December. Then last week, Bella Piatti owner Nino Cutraro revealed that he was partnering with Wahlburgers in a Detroit News society column. “Mark and I got to know one another when he was in town filming, Transformers: Age of Extinction (Transformers 4) in the summer of 2013,” Cutraro tells DBusiness. “We stayed in touch with one another, so when the opportunity arose to do a partnership, we came together on a deal for Michigan and Ohio.”

The Greektown restaurant is headed to a 4,200-square foot, two-story building between Monroe Steak House and Redsmoke Barbecue, Cutraro reveals. Plans call for a bar on each floor and seats for up to 130 patrons. Designs will be in the same vein as other Wahlburgers restaurants throughout the country, with a silver, white, and green color scheme, lots of TVs, and stained wood.

Mark Wahlberg founded the chain with brothers Donnie and Paul Wahlberg and the family stars in an A&E show called Wahlburgers. The chain, which recently opened restaurants in Toronto, Boston proper, and Coney Island, New York, announced plans in December to add between 100 and 150 locations to its burger empire. The Greektown restaurant is expected to debut in June.

The long awaited Wahlburgers Orlando is finally open and Mark and Paul Wahlberg were there for all the festivities. Hundreds of fans lined up around the Orange Ave location to catch a glimpse of the Wahlberg brothers as they walked the red carpet.

The event featured live entertainment, giveaways and free samples. One of the most talked about items on the menu is the new Orlando Dreamsicle drink, an adult frappe made with vanilla vodka, triple sec, orange juice and ice cream that Wahlburgers has created exclusively for the new location.

Bringing a restaurant to Orlando has been on the Wahlberg brothers’ minds for quite some time. Mark has even talked about expanding to 3000 locations all across the US.  []
