While presenting the award for Best Screenplay at the Golden Globes Sunday night, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg wore New Year’s Eve 2016 glasses and told the audience to stop laughing at them.

The audience did not stop laughing, and so the two actors, promoting their new movie “Daddy’s Home,” became more agitated onstage.

“It’s alright, no more drinks for Will,” Wahlberg said, handing his taller counterpart a Lifesaver and commenting on his breath. “Like puppy or kitty cat breath,” Wahlberg commented.

Ferrell kept making jokes about how the two actors were not joking, and then Wahlberg made the quip about Will’s drinking. The evidence is there: just look at those glasses! Surely a sober person wouldn’t wear those glasses.

Go see the two stars’ very serious drama about what’s presumably a father coming home in theaters now.  [huffingtonpost.com]

DAVENPORT, Iowa — From a duchess to a dog whisperer … an Oscar winner to a best-selling author … and this year’s participant, former “Good Morning America” co-host and breast cancer survivor Joan Lunden, Gilda’s Club Quad-Cities has certainly had an eclectic list of speakers for its “Intimate Conversations” series.

Now the series can add a New Kid on the Block-turned-TV crimefighter to the list.

Gilda’s Executive Director Claudia Robinson said Donnie Wahlberg has been signed for this year’s Intimate Conversations, set for Friday, April 8, at the Davenport RiverCenter. Advance tickets sales began in early December, she said.

The 46-year-old Boston area native is a fairly eclectic guy himself.

He was a member of both New Kids on the Block and his younger brother’s Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, and has a movie resume that includes “Ransom,” “The Sixth Sense” and three of the “Saw” horror flicks, as well as the TV series “Band of Brothers,” and since 2010, on “Blue Bloods” as a NYPD detective and the son of the police commissioner, played by Tom Selleck.

With brothers Paul and Mark, he’s also a co-owner of the Boston restaurant Wahlburgers, which is the subject of an A&E reality series of the same name. Wahlberg also is the subject of another reality series, “Donnie Loves Jenny,” with his wife as of August 2014, former Playboy model and “The View” co-host, Jenny McCarthy.

The Gilda’s “Intimate Conversations” began in 2010 with Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and has included Oscar-winner Helen Hunt, chef Curtis Stone, “Dog Whisperer” Cesar Millian, author Nicholas Sparks and Lunden.

A fundraiser gala in support of the IDF raised more than $31 million on Friday night in a star-studded event in Los Angeles, California.

More than 1,200 supporters of the Israeli military attended the sold-out Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) charitable event held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The FIDF Western Region Gala ushered in various A-listers, including Mark Wahlberg, Liev Schreiber, Antonio Banderas, Jason Segel, Jason Alexander and Israeli-born KISS frontman Gene Simmons. A musical performance by the Beach Boys rocked the night’s event.

“For the past nine years I have watched this gala grow into the preeminent charity event it is today, and I am truly humbled by the funds raised yesterday, which are a testament to the importance of the FIDF organization and its mission. The overwhelming support from the Los Angeles community continues to amaze me,” said Israeli-American media mogul Haim Saban, who served as the gala’s chairman.

Friday’s program placed special recognition on the IDF’s Lone Soldiers, who have left their countries of origin to serve and have families that reside outside Israel.

Bereaved mothers of fallen IDF soldiers also addressed the crowd, as did a US veteran who gave a presentation on the benefits of Israeli medical technology used in America.  [jpost.com]

There was entertainment, there was testimony about the struggles of family, but the man who has taken Philadelphia by storm was on hand for the Festival of Families on the Parkway Saturday night. Pope Francis was the crowd pleaser as he arrived to the Parkway aboard the Popemobile, as the crowd snapped photos and cheered.

The Pope heard from six families coming from as far away as Jordan to as close as New York about their joys and struggles. In the end, Pope Francis – deeply moved by the stories of commitment to family – scrapped his prepared remarks and spoke as a pastor in defense of families. He advised couples to turn to grandparents for wisdom and each other. And, like a gentle uncle, advised couples never to end the day angry, but instead settle their disagreements in peace.

Actor Mark Wahlberg hosted The Festival of Families. Grammy Award winner Aretha Franklin performed for the Pope, along with the band “The Fray.” Wahlberg, Franklin, and The Fray joined a lineup that includes Andrea Bocelli, Juanes and The Philadelphia Orchestra. Former Philadelphia Eagle Herb Lusk read from Luke 15 to share the story of the Prodigal Son with the audience. Comedian and author Jim Gaffigan also performed earlier in the evening.

This was one of Pope Francis’ several public events Saturday. Earlier, he celebrated mass at the Cathedral Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul and delivered a speech at Independence Hall. As he blessed the assembly – which included thousands watching on screens down the Parkway – the Pope quipped “see you tomorrow.”  [philadelphia.cbslocal.com]

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Festival of Families will be held on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway Saturday evening. It’s a celebration of faith, community and family with Pope Francis, and Mark Wahlberg will serve as host.

Hectic fanfare outside the Kimmel Center as Mark Wahlberg popped inside to greet fans during a movie screening of Invincible.

Wahlberg, who played the legendary 1970’s Eagles wide receiver, Vince Papale in the movie, says there were two reasons he decided to host the Festival of Families.

“Well, family and faith is the most important thing in my life, so anything I can do to get out there,” said Wahlberg.

The father of four says he’s enjoying every moment of this event.

“I am excited to be back here in Philadelphia,” said Wahlberg.

And he has a message for those who may be suffering in this world.

“Family is the most important thing. Stay strong.”  [philadelphia.cbslocal.com]
