Actor Mark Wahlberg wants to help young Catholics in Chicago find their faith.

He’s among several speakers to take part at the Archdiocese of Chicago’s (re)Encounter young adult faith night.

That is at the UIC Pavilion, 525 S. Racine Ave, on October 20th.

The event is for helping young people “discover how you can live your dream and have an active faith life,” according to the Archdiocese’s website.

Wahlberg is known for talking about his faith on social media. He says he attends mass, and prays before bed, daily.

Tickets cost $15. They are general admission.

Other speakers include Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, Sr. Bethany Madonna of the Sisters of Life, and Fr. Paul Mueller, Vice Director of the Vatican Observatory.

WGN’s Dina Bair is hosting the event.

I know that everyone has been accustomed to my articles about new movies, trailers and what’s coming soon on big screens from Hollywood. Today I decided to talk about a good movie I accidentally saw these days on TV. I cannot call it too old, but taking into account that now we are in 2017, the 2008 year of production is counting 9 years already…

Risk, love and… money. 21 is a great movie about living and loving life. They say it’s a fact-based story. Maybe. However, the plot is not that of a traditional American drama; it’s not a love soap opera, it’s something more: it’s a fabulous story, where the end cannot be so easily predicted.

Have you ever been a casino player? Even if not, you will fully taste the passion and risk of this game by watching this movie. The magic of this movie is the feeling that everyone can be Ben Campbell, the main character – a young and smart man, M.I.T. student in Boston, who is waiting for a scholarship to transfer to the Harvard School of University and become a doctor. Unfortunately, Ben cannot afford the 300,000$ cost for schooling, and here the magic begins…

Ben’s usual life turns upside down, when his professor of math, Micky Rosa, introduces him to a secret group of his best five students and teaches them the skill of card counting at BlackJack (learn more about this game here). As a result, every weekend, the five students go to secret trips to Las Vegas and, using their math skills and secret signals, win thousands of dollars in casino after casino. In order to remain incognito, the five students change clothes, wigs and names, pretending each time to be someone else.

I don’t want to tell you the full story and let you enjoy this movie by yourself, as the beautiful transformation of Ben’s life is not forever. The problems start when the security service of a Las Vegas casino begin to count losses and start hunting the secret group of math geniuses…

Even though Ben promised that he will stop playing when he reaches the sum of 300,000$, his pride and ambitions played a low-down trick. The sincere, shy young man becomes a provident card-sharper. This is how money will change Ben.

Of course any dramatic story isn’t full without a beautiful love fairy-tale. And 21 isn’t an exception. Ben falls in love or, maybe, it’s all just adrenaline and passion? Where all these problems and false dreams will lead him, together with the problems with the casino security, his professor of math and passion for his bad-luck genius colleague, see in the full movie.

You will not be disappointed, as besides the interesting plot, the actors are very well selected. Among them you will recognize Jim Sturgess, Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth and others. If you, like me, are tired of soap dramas and predictable endings, this movie is for you. Here is the taste of adrenaline, risk and big money. So how about reserving a few hours to watch a good movie?

Life should be lived with a smile on your face and no one does a better job of putting one on our faces than you. We are forever grateful for the love you bring into our lives. Thank you for all you do. ‪#‎HappyBirthdayDonnie‬! 🎈 🎉

It was a chance meeting on the field at MCU Park between Donnie Wahlberg and Mookie Wilson when the CBS “Blue Bloods” star decided to take a few good-natured ribs at the New York Mets 1986 Game 6 World Series hero. Engaging in some baseball banter before the July 21 Aberdeen game, the Dorchester, Massachusetts native told Wilson, “I’m going to break the curse that the Mets have over the Boston Red Sox when I throw out the first pitch tonight.”

Wahlberg explained further, saying, “We broke the Curse of the Bambino in 2004 and now it’s time to break the Curse of Mookie Wilson!” Laughingly, Wilson said that he wasn’t aware of the curse and gave Wahlberg a pat on the back and wished him well as Wilson returned to the clubhouse and Wahlberg walked to the Cyclone bullpen to practice for his ceremonial first pitch.

Ensuring that he’d make a good first pitch, the Cyclone staff lent Wahlberg Cyclone Pitching Coach Billy Bryk and right-handed pitcher Gary Cornish for a bullpen session. After 20 minutes of pitching in the pen, Bryk pronounced Wahlberg “ready to toe the rubber.” Unfortunately, the instruction went for naught as the Red Sox rooter realized his worse fear on the mound and bounced the ball in front of home plate on his delivery to the catcher.

Having missed Wahlberg’s first pitch, Wilson was informed of the short throw during the game to which he exclaimed with a wry smile, “Well if he bounced the ball, it doesn’t count to break my curse. Does it now?!”

However, some of Wahlberg’s Irish-Swedish heritage magic did rub off on the Cyclones as the team got lucky in the ninth inning on Irish Night and managed to hold on for a narrow 3-2 win. After the Cyclones’ emerging pitching ace Harol Gonzalez held Aberdeen scoreless over 7.2 innings with nine strikeouts, the Brooklyn bullpen uncharacteristically gave up two runs in the ninth inning to make the Cyclone fans once again grit their teeth.

When 38-year-old Jackie Becker and her mom stopped by the set of “Patriot’s Day,” Mark Wahlberg’s new film, they simply wanted to catch a glimpse of the actor. But their hours of waiting paid off when Jackie, who suffered brain damage as a child, got to meet Wahlberg, who then invited them to the movie premiere.

Jackie contracted eastern equine encephalitis (EEEV) from a mosquito bite when she was 6 years old. EEEV is one of the most severe mosquito-transmitted diseases in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with a 33 percent mortality rate and significant brain damage in most survivors. Only a few cases are reported annually.

“She can’t do the things she used to be able to do. Her fine motor skills are tough. She can’t color, she can’t play with dolls,” Jean Becker, Jackie’s mother, told Fox25.

Movies and movie stars became a big part of her daughter’s world after she got sick, Jean said.

The mother and daughter live in Framingham, Mass., where Wahlberg is filming “Patriot’s Day.” When they went by the set, they waited by his trailer.

“He called us up to the trailer, and he was wonderful,” Jean told Fox25. “He came right up to Jackie. He leaned down to her, and he said ‘hi’ to her.”

Jackie told the news channel she didn’t expect the actor would talk to her.

“It was cool,” Jackie said.

An invite to the premiere of “Patriots day” helped make for “the best day of [Jackie’s] life,” Jean said.

“I said to him, ‘You have no idea what you just did,’” Jean told Fox25.

The members of the Spaulding Rehabilitation Center’s #RaceforRehab Boston Marathon team got a surprise Saturday (April 16) when Mark Wahlberg walked into the Revere Hotel, where the runners had gathered for a rally. The actor, in town shooting the Marathon bombing movie “Patriots Day,” thanked the runners for their fund-raising efforts. He was joined by actor Michael Beach, a Roxbury native who’s playing former governor Deval Patrick in the movie.

Mark Wahlberg is one of the most multi-talented people in Hollywood right now. He has been involved in modeling, rapping, acting, producing – not to mention he’s one hell of a businessman. Number Eleven: He Gets Followed Into Bathrooms. Because of the role Wahlberg played in Boogie Nights, he has said that many women and some men often follow him into restrooms to try and get a glimpse of his infamous manhood.

Number Ten: He is a Momma’s Boy. Well, he’s good to his mom, at the very least. In 2001, Wahlberg used his wealth to buy his mother a mansion in Beverly Hills. The mansion reportedly cost $5 million.

Number Nine: His Daughter Was Born on the Same Day His Sister Died. Wahlberg’s first child, Ella Rae, was born on September 2, 2003. On this very same day, Wahlberg’s older sister, Debbie, passed away. He now has four children.

Jason Fein, owner of School of Rock in Geneva, is used to working with local kids to hone their musical skills. But he got quite the surprise last month when the production team from the Wahlburgers called to see if Donnie Wahlberg could stop by for a visit with his nephew, who has aspirations of becoming a musician, to shoot for their upcoming season.

Fein got the voicemail the night of Nov. 19 and called the Wahlburgers production team right back. Donnie, his nephew, and the Walburgers crew stopped by the next morning. They also brought with them Rob Lewis, also known as Young Q, who is a well-known producer and has worked with several famous musicians including Christina Aguilera, Dr. Dre and Mary J. Blige.

“When Donnie came in he walked right up to me and introduced himself. He was just a really regular and friendly guy,” Fein said. “He doesn’t come across as being really famous.”

They stayed for an hour and Fein and one of his instructors provided some vocal coaching to Donnie’s nephew. Donnie also got on the drums for a bit during the lesson and Young Q played the piano. Fein said another highlight from the visit was when Donnie asked if Fein would take a selfie with him and his nephew.  []

The biopic would be based on Butler’s new book Tuff Juice, which details how the Sacramento Kings player grew up dealing drugs, but managed to turn his life around.

Wahlberg has publicly backed the book on social media, and according to TMZ, Butler said: “[A film is] a possibility. I’ve spent some time with Mark Wahlberg. He loved my story.”

The American actor has already worked on sports-based projects including The Fighter and HBO series Ballers.
